UMKC HONORS COLLEGE

Development and Communications Services

Beth Hammock guided the creation of a development program at the new Honors College at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She and her team created a development plan, case statement, social media plan, and alumni newsletter. Beth also met with alumni across the country as a development officer.

The results of her work speak for themselves: we have been highly successful in building our network of potential donors through direct mail and social media outreach while also successfully marketing our program to an ever more extensive and diverse population of potential students.” - James McKusick, Ph.D., Former Dean, UMKC Honors College

The dean’s letter in the case statement

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Exceptional students become extraordinary leaders, researchers, and thinkers at the UMKC Honors College. Established in 2015, the Honors College is the place for the most talented students in the region to belong to a community of intellectual peers — people who are going places!

The Honors College creates a liberal arts college environment within UMKC. Students thrive surrounded by others committed to academic excellence.

The Honors College attracts students recruited by every major university in the country. They are Kansas City’s future civic and business leaders. We want top talent to stay and engage with our vibrant community. The university has big goals for growing the Honors College. We started with 200 students enrolled. Our goal is for 600 students to learn together in the Honors College by 2020.

Scholarships are the trump card in recruiting honors students. That’s why we created Honors College Scholarships — a notch above UMKC’s highest automatic scholarship, the Curators’ Scholar Award. Please consider a gift for scholarships or the Honors College Opportunity Fund — a fund providing resources for study abroad, internships, and other rewarding experiences.

This publication shares stories of the impact of a UMKC Honors College education. We are counting on you to be inspired and support this next generation of leaders from UMKC. On behalf of the students of today and tomorrow, thank you!

Sincerely,

Dean James McKusick
